RWBY Volume 6 Overall Review and News Round-up

Yes, I am back from my blogging hiatus which also means that we are just a few months out from the premiere of RWBY Volume 7! With RTX 2019 kicking off today that means the RWBY panel this Friday, July 5, will be dropping some new information about Volume 7 and all things RWBY related. So there are a couple of things I would like to discuss in this post: my overall thoughts on Volume 6 and favorite moments, my thoughts on the Volume 6 soundtrack, some developments and questions for Volume 7/a news round-up, and Kerry Shawcross’ recent journal post on Volume 7.

My Overall Thoughts on Volume 6 and Favorite Moments

Without a doubt, Volume 6 has become my favorite volume of the entire series. My favorite episodes are E1, E5, E6, E10. E11, and E12. My favorite moments/story arcs are The Apathy (which was one ofArryn Zech’s favorite moments from Volume 6), Blake and Yang’s fight against Adam, especially the scenes where Blake grabs Yang’s hand and says “We’re protecting each other.” and Yang comforts Blake after they defeat Adam.

My Thoughts on the Volume 6 Soundtrack

Hands down this is my favorite RWBY Soundtrack ever and taken the title away from the Volume 4 soundtrack. Casey Lee Williams and her dad, Jeff Williamsn, really know how to combine the sounds and styles of the greatest rock bands. I kind of think of the overall feel as Procol Harum’s sound mixed with the hard rock sounds of bands like the Foo Fighters, Guns ‘N’ Roses, Aerosmith along with the heavy metal sounds and speed of Motörhead. They have done another amazing job!! I was crying on Indomitable. It's an absolutely beautiful ballad and story-song about Monty & his relationship with Casey & her father. This is one of the best songs that she & her father have written & absolutely one of the greatest story songs ever.

Regarding the drums on “Nevermore”, I could swear that Metallica's Lars Ulrich or Motorhead's Phil "Philthy Animal" Taylor was playing on this track! Definitely one of my favorites from this album.

The acoustic version of “Armed and Ready” sounds like something out of an old Western film and using a country music sound surprisingly fits what they were trying to aim at for.

News round-up, Questions for Volume 7, and a glimpse of What I’m looking forward to in Volume 7

New Outfits for Volume 7

One question that was raised on the season 2 finale of RWBY Rewind by Ellie Main was if Team RWBY would be getting new outfits for Volume 7. Kerry Shawcross replied “I mean… I’m not going to confirm anything, they’ve been wearing these for a while and they are going to a new city.” Fast forward to a few months to April 26-28, while Lindsay Jones, Kara Eberle, Arryn Zech, and Barbara Dunkelman were at the LVL UP Expo in Las Vegas, Nevada. During their livestream interview with GamingLyfe.com, all four were asked the following question: “Which outfits of Team RWBY did you like the best? Original, second version, or current one? Barbara replied “The OG outfit was pretty great. I think that, you know, it holds a special place in our hears for all the girls but I think I like an upcoming outfit.” In response, Arryn said “I’ve seen Blake’s. I really love her new new one, but I like her pajamas the most.” This pretty much confirms that Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang will be getting new outfits for Volume 7 and we now know that they will get new outfits every three volumes. The outfits could most likely be revealed during the RWBY panel on Friday, July 5 at RTX Austin and to the rest of the fanbase when the panel is posted on the Rooster Teeth website afterward.

Will Blake’s weapon, Gambol Shroud, be repaired, upgraded or replaced?

Another question Kerry was asked was “Any hints to Blake’s future new weapon? Can it be repaired or will it be changed?” Kerry said the following: “She can’t not have a weapon. Things will happen. We got some ideas.” Personally, I hope that Blake’s weapon will be restored to its original condition and I have a theory about how it could happen. My theory is that Weiss could possibly weld the broken part of Gambol Shroud’s blade since she welded a trailer-hitch on to Yang’s motorcycle Bumblebee when they were getting ready to leave Brunswick Farm.

I will eventually write a dedicated post with my theories and expectations for Volume 7 in the coming weeks.

Qrow’s new Voice Actor has been announced

A few weeks after the finale of Volume six, Rooster Teeth announced that they parted ways with Qrow’s voice actor, Vic Mignogna, after allegations of sexual harassment continued to grow. In my opinion Rooster Teeth made the right call because keeping him as part of the cast could have potentially damaged Rooster Teeth’s reputation, especially in this age of the #MeToo movement and in the wake of high profile names, such as Harvey Weinstein, being held accountable for their conduct towards women. Sadly, there were some who sided with Vic and one fan, CY_98,  began taking extreme measures to “save” Vic’s career by continually harassing the Twitter accounts of Rooster Teeth, RTX, Monica Rial (one of Vic’s former co-stars in Dragonball), Barbara Dunkelman, Arryn Zech, and anyone who came forward with personal accounts of sexual harassment. CY_98 urged his fellow #IStandwithVic people who were planning on attending RTX Austin 2019 to create chaos and demand that Vic be rehired at the RWBY Panel and the autograph sessions of Lindsay, Kara, Arryn, and Barb. After month’s of the fanbase dealing with the malarkey of CY_98, Kerry recently announced in a journal post on Rooster Teeth’s Legacy Community page that Jason Liebrecht, who voices Dabi in My Hero Academia, will be the new voice of Qrow.

In addition to announcing Jason Liebrecht as the new voice of Qrow, Kerry also wrote that the RWBY panel will be uploaded afterwards on RoosterTeeth.com, which is great for those who are unable to attend RTX this year. The reason why this is happening is because Rooster Teeth was unable to secure a streaming partner for RTX this year. Usually, the panels are livestreamed via a third party, such as Mixer or Twitch. I will write a post recapping and highlighting the 2019 RTX RWBY panel as soon as it is uploaded to Rooster Teeth.
