RWBY Volume 6 Episode 4 - So That's How It Is: Review

The team is still mad at Ozpin, especially Yang who says to Ozpin, “There was so much you hadn’t told us. How could you think that was okay?” Ruby asks Ozpin what his plan to defeat Salem is, to which he tells her that he doesn’t have a plan. Great… We now finally get to hear Qrow’s thoughts after punching Ozpin. On that note, when he punched Ozpin, who had another thing coming and fully deserved it, he technically also hurt Oscar, who didn’t deserve to be punched at all. Qrow feels betrayed by Ozpin. Ozpin gave Qrow, the walking embodiment of bad luck and Murphy’s Law, a place in the world and a sense of purpose. But, now that the cat is out of the bag, Qrow tells Ozpin that meeting him was the worst luck of his life. Ozpin then locks himself away in Oscar’s mind.

Yang is still mad at him and Blake and Weiss start questioning what they’re going to do now. This can be viewed in two ways; Ozpin is being a coward by locking himself away or Ozpin locked himself away to contemplate his actions towards team RWBY and what he should do going forward. I think it is the latter; Ozpin needs to take a long hard thought about team RWBY’s trust in him. They have had it with him leaving out important details from the truth and he must regain the team’s trust in him. If I were Ozpin, going forward I would tell team RWBY the full truth and have greater trust in them. Remember the line from the song Complete Control by The Clash: “I don’t trust you, so why should you trust me?” If team RWBY is ever going to trust Ozpin again, he has to be able to instill greater trust in them and be more forthcoming.

Maria tells the team to stop arguing and worrying because they are all spewing negativity and they need to find shelter before it gets too dark out. Maria is temporarily assuming Ozpin’s role as the elder statesman, (well stateswoman) and will give the team some of her insight and prior experiences. Maria understands the anger and disbelief that Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang are currently experiencing, but at this moment cooler heads have to prevail. She was right in diffusing this situation before it got any worse. Ruby tries to instill some confidence in Oscar, but Qrow tells her to not lie to Oscar because they are better than that.

The team is tired and frustrated, as evident when Blake comments “I just want to get this stupid relic to Atlas.” They have been following a trail, which should lead them somewhere. Which it did, they found an abandoned farm. Upon walking up to the gate, we see some more of Blake’s dry wit when she remarks “Well, at least one good thing happened today.” They are tired and weary; this farm is the perfect place for the team to rest up. We will have to see what happens next in episode five.
