RWBY Volume 6 Trailer: Breakdown and Analysis

It's finally here, the trailer for Volume 6 has finally dropped! Lets begin with the breakdown of the trailer and analyze some key points.

Breakdown & Analysis:
The trailer starts out with some shots of the landscape, a snowy, alpine forest. Some slow and somber sounding music consisting of piano and vocals can be heard. Salem can also be heard giving a monologue. The scene then cuts to a shot of Qrow, Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Yang, and Oscar/Ozpin trekking through the snow. Yang is pushing her motorcycle, which has an elderly woman seated upon it. This woman has some form of high-tech enhancement for her sight. We don't know her name yet, so lets just call her "Maz", because she reminds me of Maz Kanata from Star Wars: The Force Awakens. The trailer then cuts to a front facing shot of the group, where we can see a better glimpse of "Maz." We also see here that Ruby is carrying the Relic of Knowledge and Weiss' updated outfit with stockings and a red scarf with a white flower.

This scene then fades out and transitions to the train station in Mistral. Here we see a very jubilant Ruby with Yang, Weiss, Nora and Qrow. This scene also fades out and the trailer the cuts to the White Fang's headquarters, where the slain bodies of White Fang members are strewn across the floor. This bit is from the Adam Taurus character short. We then move to a group of people in a forest area who have their arms raised above their heads and bowing to a mystery man, who apparently can float or fly.

The trailer then cuts to black and then slowly fades in a headshot of Salem, still continuing with her monologue. The music then begins to give a feeling of suspense. Then it cuts to Emerald being confronted by Tyrian. The trailer then cuts to black and the music cuts out. It then cuts to a train up in the snowy mountains that is being attacked by some grim, while Oscar/Ozpin looks out the window to see what is going on.

The trailer then transitions back to the train station where Ruby is using her semblance to speed by obstacles. The music begins to pick up in tempo further adding to its already dramatic tone. The trailer then cuts to Qrow, on top of the train, slicing a grim in half, then Jaune and Nora fighting off the grim, and then a shot of Ruby with Crescent Rose. This is then followed by another a few more quick cuts including Ruby looking at the Relic of Knowledge; then Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang, who has an angry look and has her Ember Celica fully deployed while the others look at her in shock and awe.

The trailer then cuts to Oscar/Ozpin on his hands and hands with an outstretched arm looking towards Ruby, Weiss, Blake, and Yang. Weiss and Yang appear to be angry at him, while Blake is stopped mid-motion from grabbing her weapon, Gambol Shroud. Then there’s a quick cut to a close up of “Maz,” followed by Ren and Nora in action on the train. Then we see Ruby using her semblance to carry Weiss, which is evident by the red and white blurs. The trailer then moves to an extreme close-up a screaming Oscar/Ozpin then to a shot of Salem with her arm outstretched with the trailer briefly cutting to black a few times as she moves closer. Finally, the trailer goes black and the dramatic music cuts out and we hear a grim’s growl or snarl. Finally, the trailer then cuts back to the Ruby, Weiss, Blake, Yang, and Qrow on top of the train ready to engage the enemy. Blake says to Ruby: “What’s the plan Ruby?” Ruby replies “Don’t let anyone else die.”

Overall, the trailer perfectly sets up what is to come in volume 6 and leaves us with some questions that will eventually be answered somewhere down the line. Mainly, what is going on with Oscar/Ozpin? Why are Weiss and Yang mad at him? Who is “Maz”? The battle on the train gives a nod to two previous fights that have occured on a moving train: the one with Blake and Adam from the Black Trailer and the one towards the end of Volume 2 from the episode “No Brakes.” All in all, this is volume is shaping to be a really good one. All Aboard the Hype Train!! It’s officially RWBY season!!
